Amelie's Advent Calendar

Christmas 2011 is shaping up to be the best ever.

Amelie is at an age now where she understands Christmas and is old enough to join in the Christmas fun.

While I doubt I'll ever get a photo with Santa (she is one of those kids that breaks into tears when he is within arms reach) I do look forward to enjoying other Christmas traditions with Amelie.

I have started work on an advent for Amelie. I have strung a line of twine under our breakfast bar and pegged 24 Christmas ornaments. Each day from 1st December, Amelie will place an ornament on the tree.

My pegged ornaments.

An assortment of sweet ornaments I picked up for a steal from Ikea.

All that is left to do is create little numbered tags to peg with each ornament and we're done.

What Christmas crafts are you planning or creating?

  1. What a glorious advent 'calendar' Kate and how wonderful that Amelie is at that magical age where Christmas is all about the wonder and joy.

    Happy day my friend!

  2. How gorgeous Kate. And what a unique idea too... so much nicer than those cardboard advent calendars with the scummy choccie inside!
It is the most wonderful time once the little ones understand the joy of the season. And don't worry, my Angus is 4 and this is the first year he's actually excited about seeing Santa everywhere... though still a little cautious too ;o) xo

  3. Great idea. This will surely build the excitement of the lead up to Christmas. A beautiful tradition to keep going in years to come.

  4. I love this idea Kate. I wonder if she will be like you and unwrap everything days before and carefully rewrap them.

  5. What a clever idea!!! I've always wanted to make a cute Advent calendar string but thought the idea of the ones which activities for each day a bit beyond Grace at the moment (and a bit hard for me to commit to with a newborn) but your idea is totally age appropriate!! I might have to borrow it if I get a chance to organise some ornaments.

  6. This is such a great idea! I think I'll have to steal it. Now I just need to collect some unbreakable ornaments!
